The first Santa Ynez Art Walk closed on Oct. 11, and what's left of the township's fall calendar now sits at two spots in town. One is the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum and Parks-Janeway Carriage House at 3596 Sagunto Street. The other is the corner of Highway 246 and Meadowvale Road, where the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians holds its Culture Day. From now through early December, most of what's happening in town and run by people who live here happens at one of those two places.
The Santa Ynez Valley Foundation's events calendar lists a Vintners Festival on the same Saturday as Culture Day. The township's own events run on a separate track, put on by a museum, a tribe, a chamber of commerce and a beautification group.
The Art Walk Already Mapped the Town
The Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce billed the Oct. 2–11 event as its inaugural Art Walk. More than 25 businesses across the township each showed an artist of their choice during regular business hours. According to Noozhawk's preview, the opening-night lineup included Artiste Winery and Gallery, Denee's Interiors, KJ Murphy, Charlotte's, Forage Floral, SYV Pantry, MER, Perch Lifestyle, Valley Girl, and the Santa Ynez Historical Museum and Carriage House.
The side events point to the same handful of local hosts. The historic Santa Ynez Branch Library gave out craft packets for kids, and Denee's Interiors set out chalk in its courtyard. Forage Floral ran a figure-drawing workshop, and Old Mission Santa Ines offered two free tours focused on its 18th-century artwork. The art on display ranged from painting and pottery to one-of-a-kind hat-making, leather work, hand-crafted silver jewelry and creative cocktails.
Nobody has said yet whether the Art Walk will come back next year. The Chamber still calls this one the inaugural event, and its page doesn't mention 2027. What it did show is that Sagunto Street and the blocks around it can carry a ten-day event on their own, and the museum was one of the stops.
What's New Inside the Museum
On Sept. 24 the museum opened a new exhibit called "Shavings & Sawdust: Early Woodworking Tools from the Santa Ynez Valley." The museum hasn't posted an item list, a closing date, hours or admission for the show, so check the museum's website before you go.
The subject suits the building. The Parks-Janeway Carriage House holds the largest collection of horse-drawn vehicles west of the Mississippi, along with regional saddlery, period clothing and vintage horse gear made by local and regional craftspeople. A display of early woodworking tools fits right in with a collection built around how things in this valley were made and used.
The museum is also looking for docents. It asks local residents interested in Western history and culture to volunteer.
Tickets Ran Out Before November
The museum's biggest night of the year has already sold out. The 42nd Annual Vaquero Dinner & Auction is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, 5–9 p.m., at the Historical Museum and Parks-Janeway Carriage House. This year's honorees are Denis Carroll and Don Hanson.
Forty-two years is a long run for a benefit dinner in a town this size. Selling out almost a month ahead shows how much of a following the museum has built up. If you missed tickets this year, look for the 2027 announcement on the Vaquero event page next fall.
The Other Anchor Sits at Highway 246 and Meadowvale
Next Saturday's main event is the tribe's. The 20th annual Santa Ynez Chumash Culture Day runs Saturday, Oct. 17, from noon to 9 p.m. at the corner of Highway 246 and Meadowvale Road. The tribe's July/August 2026 magazine says the event is free, open to the public and welcomes all ages. The program includes California-style Native American singing and dancing, food, games, Native vendors, food booths and basket-weaving demonstrations.
The Santa Barbara Independent's coverage of the 2025 event named the tribe's Elders Council and Culture Department as sponsors that year. Dance groups that want to take part can email the Culture Department at [email protected]. The same address handles general questions, and vendors apply through a form linked in the magazine.
No parking plan has been published. The event runs nine hours, so arriving later in the day is one way to get past the busiest stretch.

Country Christmas Is Set, but the Venue Isn't Listed Yet
The Santa Ynez Valley Foundation lists Santa Ynez Country Christmas for Thursday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. It's a free community event with kids' activities, Santa, holiday music, dance performances and treats. The 2026 listing doesn't give a venue.
The 2024 event is the closest guide to how this one will likely go. The Santa Ynez Valley Star reported that the Dec. 5, 2024, ceremony took place at the Historical Museum, with families filling the courtyard and the inside of the Parks-Janeway Carriage House. Dancers from Fossemalle Dance Studio performed tap routines and a ballet set to music from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite." After that, the crowd walked out to Sagunto Street to watch the lights come on the 55-foot-plus tree. The Star credited Santa Ynez Beautiful and the Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce as sponsors.
That was 2024, and the 2026 details could change. Still, the 2024 version had the same pieces as the rest of this fall. The museum hosted, the Chamber co-sponsored, a local dance studio performed, and it all ended a short walk away on Sagunto Street.
The calendar above covers through Dec. 3. If you'd like to talk about your own place in town, whether that's what a home on or near Sagunto Street is worth now or what renting it out would look like, Hinkens Group is a local, family-run firm that handles both sales and property management.
